naming knot

In living ontology, a naming knot is a very tricky naming conventions situation that requires a very exact solution that must be adhered to exactly.

No solution to a naming knot can ever be permanent as what make its it a knot is that it isn't optimal for any of the constraints involved. However changing the solution is so painful and dangerous it must never be done more than once a year or so. Major effort tends to be involved in changing any naming convention, but with knots there is also a risk to confuse even senior editors.

Known knots from least to most difficult

All three are aggravated by fatal tikiwiki flaws, as mediawiki actually has standard approaches to all of these, that are painful but necessary to copy.
