multi-member electoral district

A multi-member electoral district is any electoral district in a representative democracy where more than one member of the legislature is being elected on a single ballot.

A Single Transferable Vote system relies on such multi-member districts. When only one member or officer is being elected, this is called an Instant Runoff Vote not STV!

A bioregional multi-member district scheme, BSTV+C+P, is thought to be an optimal way to organize both single- and multi-member electoral districts so that bioregions are represented and respected.
