While hypocrisy is often treated as one of the most despised political vices of Western culture, a more modern or Eastern notion of integrity tends to treat it as inevitable: we all espouse values that we do not reliably execute in life.

The intellectual integrity of trolls seems to be particularly intolerant of hypocrisy and so may be an overhang of Western culture, as indeed may be the Troll Age.

Some theories like Confucianism actually view hypocrisy more as a power source, letting leaders apply leverage to the more hypocritical to goad or embarass them to perform. Ethical trolls seem to have similar goals, as they are usually quite explicit about the standards of performance their targets haven't met.
