Jack Layton

Jack Layton is the leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada. He was elected in the Canadian federal election, 2004 in the Toronto-Danforth FED.

Jack was formerly head of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and an influential Toronto City Councillor.

He has a specific interest in the following issues:

Under Jack the NDP has advanced electoral reform to the top of its agenda. Under a strict proportional representation system the NDP would have three times its present 19 seats in parliament, and members from every region of Canada.

Jack is married to Olivia Chow, another influential Councillor who has run several times unsuccessfully for federal office, most recently in the Canadian federal election, 2004.
