The Canadian federal election, 2004 occurred on June 28, 2004. Notable events:

  • First federal election in which the Green Party of Canada ran 308 - a full slate of candidates. Every Canadian had a chance to vote Green.
  • GPC received 4.3% of the popular vote.
  • national media coverage of the party and its exclusion from federal leaders debate
  • Liberal minority government emerged with NDP support insufficient to guarantee passage of legislation; This had implications when the government had to deal to stay afloat even on its throne speech.
