A wikitext standard has to support the GFDL corpus since it's so huge. This means it must track mediawiki.
Practically, this means that Wikimedia musttake the lead towards any wikitext standard
, for instance, holding it constant for periods of time so that other developers can target the standard, which would have to have versions:
