lobbyist

A lobbyist is any person or corporation that tries to lobby government, however successfully or unsuccessfully, to do what they want.

An advocacy group is the most common kind of lobbyist.

Some persons are paid directly to act in this capacity however and they are often called "a lobbyist".

In most countries including Canada there are laws requiring such persons to register as performing such duties for clients.
