journalist best practice

A journalist best practice list must include:

  • never, ever, paraphrase?
  • know the rules of attribution
  • be extremely wary of malice and hearsay?
  • print nothing without a second source?
  • spell everything exactly as in the GFDL corpus namespace, i.e. Wikipedia, it's the safest bet - exception: avoid American spelling? outside the US
  • contact any persons disparaged in the story for comment, if they are not engaged in active libel or spreading of hearsay? - if so, there's no obligation and quoting them can actually add fuels to the flame
  • why New York Times:cited quotes and facts are better than Wikipedia:cited quotes and facts
