code of conduct

A code of conduct is a general term for a set of rules intended to regulate behavior. It can be an informal etiquette or a rigorous professional ethical code. Such codes are part of civic best practice, but can be used to censor? people simply for being impassioned or concerned, while enabling those who are in a position to enforce the rule selectively, according to their bias?.

In open politics the only code of conduct to which all participants are obliged (as in "these are the rules") is the terms of use. Other community standards which are being informally enforced are known as the guidelines.
