Principles and Policy Statement

Principle: Government must provide the right goods and services at the right place, at the right time for the right reasons and at the right cost.
Comment: Government should provide vision and leadership by setting an example of moral integrity in the design and implementation of programs that are in line with the principles and values of Canadians.

Principle: government activities must be traceable.
Comment: Government initiatives - from policy formation, to funding allocation, design and delivery and results - must be transparent in order that government programs can be monitored by parliamentarians and the public and efficiently audited where appropriate.

Policy Statement (brief):
The GPC will take immediate steps to ensure that divisions of accountability and responsibility within parliament and the public service and between government and citizens is clearly identified and that Parliament and the public service are held separately accountable for their roles in delivering sound policies and programs to Canadians.
