Former Deputy Prime Minister
? Sheila Copps was de-nominated in her Hamilton electoral district by
Paul Martin after failing to defeat him in a leadership race.
John Manley who also ran in that race, also left politics. Copps was a close associate of
Jean Chretien and was also strongly opposed to current DPM
Anne McLellan whom she criticized as incompetent after McLellan was responsible for failures in several portfolios.
Many members of the
Green Party of Canada favour recruiting Copps to replace outgoing
GPC Leader Jim Harris, who has done serious damage to the party's credibility and rendered it virtually invisible to media. Despite Copps' assertion - made publicly in
Going Green by Sheila Copps - that the opportunity it is failing to exploit, is vast and unique in Canadian history.
