Nova Scotia is the easternmost of the mainland Canadian provinces and territories?, a vast peninsula all but completely surrounded by salt water: Gulf of Maine? including Bay of Fundy? to the south, the open Atlantic Ocean? including the Gulf Stream to the east, Northumberland Strait? and Gulf of St. Lawrence? to the north completely surrounding Cape Breton Island? which is separated from mainland Nova Scotia by the Strait of Canso?. Nowhere in Nova Scotia is more than 60km from the sea.
